Zautomation has completed a project in the logistic sector for a major client in the Emilia Romagna region in Italy. The project is part of the National Plan for Industry 4.0.
Thanks to a cutting-edge artificial vision system our client could automate product traceability in a 11,000 m² warehouse, with 8 shelving lines, each with 7 shelves. Previously, the customer used a barcode inventory system.
RFID and vision systems
Our client previously used barcodes, but was faced with an issue that needed prompt intervention: barcodes easily deteriorated and it was hard to read them because products where stored in piles in the warehouse.
To solve this problem, Zautomation assigned a passive RFID to each item in the warehouse and equipped forklifts with an RFID reader and a camera.
With RFID tags all traceability problems were solved thanks to tailored programs integrated with the information system..
Product tracking
The on-board camera records forklift movements, suggests better routings and prevents workers from collecting the wrong goods.
In addition, the IOTAR application was installed. In this way, we were able to answer to the need – shared by many other companies – to have an integrated, reliable and flexible system to collect, store, display and analyse data.
